Filmmaker & Screenwriter
Kynan Clarke is a Gunai/Kurnai, Gunditjmara, and Monero filmmaker and screenwriter based in Narrm (Melbourne).
His work centres Indigenous storytelling, with a strong commitment to platforming the voices and experiences of his community through film and media.
Kynan began his filmmaking journey while studying a Bachelor of Media & Communications, and has since gone on to work across a range of projects. In 2018, he joined Typecast’s acclaimed short film Elders as an Indigenous attachment. He later participated in the Inspirit Lab initiative, a development workshop focused on adapting existing IP into screenplays, learning from leading industry figures including Tony Briggs (The Sapphires), Jan Sardi (Shine, The Notebook) and Elise McCredie (Stateless, The Clearing).
In 2024, he was selected for the Melbourne International Film Festival’s Accelerator Lab, a 5-day intensive for emerging directors.
Kynan recently co-wrote and co-directed Bush Boots with Isabel Dilena, premiering at the 2025 Melbourne International Film Festival as part of the MIFF Footy Shorts initiative; a collaboration between VicScreen, the AFL, and MIFF.
He is currently employed by Indigenous production company Typecast Entertainment and is working across film and television projects that champion First Nations perspectives.
